Cooking Tips
It’s important to mix the tapioca starch with the non-dairy milk before heating to prevent lumps from forming. Tapioca starch activates and thickens quickly when exposed to heat, so blending it evenly with the cold milk ensures a smooth, creamy texture in your vegan cheese. This is why I prefer to make this cheese in a blender. However, you can mix it by hand; just make sure you whisk the tapioca starch into the milk until fully dissolved before adding it to the pan with the spices for heating.
Final Thoughts
This recipe is made specifically for my potato crust pizza and makes about 1/2 cup of cheese.

Quick and Easy Vegan Pizza Cheese
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp raw cashews *see notes for other milk options
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tbsp tapioca starch
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne powder optional
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- Add all of the ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend on highest setting for 1-2 minutes if using cashews, or about 30 seconds if using pre-made milk. The mixture should be completely smooth.
- Heat over medium-high heat. Stir constantly with a whisk until the mixture has thickened (3-5 minutes). When it sticks to the whisk it should be good to use on pizza.
